My name is Denise. I’m 44, a Libra, and I live in San Diego with two cats, assorted tropical fish, a photogenic Pug, and my now retired Navy husband. We fight a lot but I won’t talk about it here because he keeps expecting me to and I hate being predictable.
I work for a software company as a Project Manager in product development. I have worked for the same company since finishing college in December 1990; things have changed a lot around here in 20 years.
I started this journal as a way to try to sort out all of the crazy voices in my head that keep me from getting everything figured out. I’ve since realized that it’s not possible to figure everything out but that doesn’t stop me from trying.
The primary topic for this site is my journey to better health and an active lifestyle. While I continue to battle an unhealthy relationship with food and eating that started before I can remember as well as Type II diabetes, I am making progress every day in becoming more active and more connected with my community. I committed to walking in a 5K event every month this year and I’ve stuck with that even though I would rather have slept in most Saturdays. I also completed a 10 mile bike ride to help find a cure for diabetes earlier this year. I should probably mention here that I’m about 100 pounds overweight, so all of this activity is no small thing for me.
I’ve been writing here for just over 8 years now and, while I go through periods of intense writer’s block, I still find the ability to tap-tap-tap on the keys then click “publish” to be one of the cheapest forms of entertainment going.
